It is my conviction that many psychiatric symptoms, not to mention cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer are related to dietary habits that promote insulin resistance and inflammation in the body and brain.man beings have been on this earth were to be represented by a yard stick, the amount of time that we have been eating grains would be symbolized by about half of an inch. Our genetic make up is no different than our paleolithic ancestors. Our bodies evolved in adaptation to a diet of grass fed meats, fats, nuts and berries and fibrous vegetables. The grain and sugar that is such a prominent part of our diets is creating chronic diseases of the body and the mind.
Most people find that their health is adversely impacted by large amounts of grain in their diets, be it refined or whole, as well as grain fed meats, unhealthy vegetable oils, sugar and processed foods. Well being is greatly enhanced by minimizing intake of all grains and sweets, and including a moderate amount of animal protein, abundant saturated animal fats and low starch vegetables.
It is not easy to change habits, particularly those related to food. It requires a great deal of attention and support. I am very interested in helping my patients in this way. I have many ideas and am always learning something new to share.
